Google launches its latest AI model, Gemini, offering performance across various tasks on devices and platforms


Google welcomes its new AI model Gemini, its latest AI model, for users worldwide, integrated into Bard and the newest Pixel 8 Pro smartphones. Sundar Pichai, Google's CEO, highlighted Gemini 1.0's exceptional performance, optimized in three sizes: Ultra, Pro, and Nano. 

Pichai called it a groundbreaking effort, representing a significant science and engineering endeavor.

Gemini is a multimodal model capable of understanding text, code, audio, image, and video seamlessly. Demonstrations showcased its human-like vision and real-time decision-making abilities.

Gemini Ultra handles complex tasks, Pro scales across various tasks, while Nano manages on-device functions.

Starting today, Gemini Nano powers Pixel 8 Pro features, like Summarise and Smart Reply on WhatsApp. 

The model will extend to more Google products such as Search, Ads, Chrome, and Duet AI. Google is experimenting with Gemini in Search, aiming for a 40% reduction in latency.

Developers can access Gemini Pro from December 13 via the Gemini API, and Gemini Nano is available for Android developers with AICore on Android 14. 

Bard receives a tuned Gemini Pro version, and Bard Advanced, featuring Gemini Ultra, is expected next year.

Google claims Gemini Ultra outperforms human experts on 30 out of 32 language model benchmarks, including multitask language understanding and code generation in popular programming languages.
