Google is again making highlights for reducing its workforce after a massive layoff earlier this year.

A spokesperson from the Alphabet Workers Union admitted regarding the jobs being cut in the news division. While Google has not given any confirmation about the lay-off yet but has eliminated 40-45 jobs in the new division.

The news follows Google's recent layoffs of several employees in the recruiting department, which occurred just a few weeks ago, as reported by the same source.

Google has confirmed job cuts while stressing its dedication to a robust information ecosystem, particularly in the field of news. The company has undergone internal restructuring, affecting a limited number of employees.

Google is providing support through transition periods, outplacement services, and severance packages as these employees explore new opportunities both within and outside the company.

The news division at Google has been going through substantial reorganization in the past few months, and these recent job cuts are part of an ongoing series of changes that began earlier this year.

In January, Alphabet, Google's parent company, revealed intentions to reduce its worldwide workforce by 6%, leading to layoffs affecting around 12,000 Google employees and individuals working in different Alphabet divisions.

The company attributed its need for downsizing to its prior hiring practices, which were a response to the surge in the digital economy during the pandemic.

This recent round of job cuts is not unique in the tech sector. Many technology firms have recently announced layoffs as part of their strategic restructuring initiatives. For example, LinkedIn let go of approximately 668 employees, bringing their total layoffs in 2023 to about 1,400.
