A school bus carrying 15 students caught fire in Ohio, but thanks to the quick actions of the driver, everyone escaped safely with no injuries. The incident occurred at the corner of Cambridge and Northampton while the bus was heading to Monticello Middle School.

As soon as the fire broke out, the driver swiftly evacuated all students from the bus, ensuring their safety before the flames spread. Moments later, firefighters from the Cleveland Heights Fire Department arrived and extinguished the fire.

The department confirmed in a Facebook post that “there were no injuries, and the students were picked up by another district vehicle and transported to school.” Photos shared online showed the yellow school bus engulfed in flames as firefighters worked to put it out.

Witnesses described the terrifying scene. One person, who was at a nearby traffic light, reported hearing a loud explosion and seeing flames erupt from the rear axle of the bus. “I tried to warn the driver by honking and flashing my lights, but the bus kept moving for two more blocks,” the witness wrote.

The incident sparked an outpouring of praise for the bus driver. “Great job getting the students off safely,” one person commented on social media. Another wrote, “Thankfully, no one was hurt because of the quick thinking of the driver.”

Cleveland Heights-University Heights City School District Superintendent Liz Kirby expressed her gratitude, saying, “I am incredibly relieved that no one was hurt. I must also credit the students for staying calm and following the driver’s instructions.”

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, but the driver’s heroic response undoubtedly prevented a tragedy.
