On June 21, Wednesday in a ceremony held at the Willard InterContinental Hotel India signed the Artemis Accords and became the 27th country to it.

Bill Nelson, NASA  Administrator was a part of the signing ceremony for the agency and Taranjit Singh Sandhu, Indian ambassador to the United States, was present on behalf of India.

With this India has joined South Korea, Singapore, the UK, Australia, Luxembourg, Canada, Mexico, the Czech Republic, Italy, Nigeria, Rwanda, Ukraine, Bahrain, Ecuador, Japan, Poland, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Brazil, France, Romania, Spain, Colombia, Israel, and New Zealand.

Amidst PM Narendra Modi’s visit to the U.S. and the growing bonds between the nation, this news marks another progressive step.

In response to a growing Indian Partnership with the U.S. on Earth and in space, Bill Nelson on behalf of the top U.S Administrators and NASA, said they are pleased to grow their partnership with India.

Further, He also stated, As the U.S. ventures farther out into the cosmos than ever before. An important question next to how they go to our destination is what they do when they reach their destinations. They want to go in a peaceful way. They want to go in a transparent way. In times of trouble, they want to support each other.

He added that “We are very grateful for India’s leadership in signing the Artemis Accords and look forward to all that we will accomplish together.”- NASA

As per some Experts, India's recently-released space policy takes a similar stand in favor of the American interpretation of the OST. This is also seen as India’s step to abandon Idealistic Principles.
