The cause behind the collapse of the 4.5-kilometer tunnel along the Char Dham Hindu pilgrimage route remains undisclosed by authorities. The region's susceptibility to natural calamities like landslides, earthquakes, and floods raises concerns about the stability of the infrastructure.
Amidst the disaster, a glimmer of relief emerged as some of the 50 to 60 workers present during the collapse managed to escape, especially those nearer to the tunnel's exit. However, the overnight shift turned tragic for many others as they became trapped within the debris.
