Performing UPI transactions without a smartphone and an internet connection may seem impossible in a world dominated by UPI giants like Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm. However, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has developed a novel payment system called UPI 123Pay, which enables feature phone users to make payments without access to the internet.
So, exactly what is UPI 123Pay?
According to NPCI, UPI 123Pay is an instant payment mechanism designed for feature phone users, allowing them to access the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in a secure and protected manner. Individuals with feature phones can use UPI 123Pay to conduct a variety of transactions, which are facilitated by four various technology choices.
These include calling an interactive voice response (IVR) number, using app functionality on feature phones, using a missed call-based technique, and even making payments via proximity sound-based methods.
This method takes two forms: one involving the use of an app and the other functioning without such a necessity. Specific feature phones in the app-enabled channel come pre-installed with applications given by mobile makers. These apps allow for seamless payments without the requirement for an internet connection.
To begin simple payment transactions, all that is required is registration on the feature phone app. The appless option, on the other hand, allows any feature phone user to make payments via methods such as IVR and miss-call pay, without the need for a specific app.
On the other hand, those who do not have access to specific apps should not be concerned. The clever UPI 123Pay ensures that every feature phone user may make payments via IVR and miss-call pay, all without being limited by the constraints of traditional smartphone software.
In a world where the digital divide can appear insurmountable, UPI 123Pay stands out as a beacon of inclusion, redefining the frontiers of financial accessibility one transaction at a time.
