The Israel-Hamas war has escalated, causing Asian airlines to cancel flights. The UN Security Council faces challenges, while the US and Iran oppose Hamas, despite Iran's support.

After Gaza made a surprise attack on Israel, the death count rose above 1100 leading to Israel declaring war on Sunday.

A day after Hamas bombarded Israel with thousands of missiles and released a wave of fighters who massacred civilians and hostages at least 100 people, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned the country to brace for a "long and tough" conflict.

According to the Israel Defense Force on Monday, over 700 Israelis have been killed in the Hamas’s surprise attack, making it the worst loss since the Arab-Israeli War of 1973.

Gaza officials confirmed a minimum of 413 deaths in the 800 targets hit by Israeli air raids on the 2.3 million-person blockaded and impoverished enclave of Gaza, which many believed would be about to undergo a ground assault.

In the midst of the conflict between Israel and Hamas, the UN Security Council convened in secret for an emergency session, but it was unable to reach the required level of unanimity for a unified statement.

The US urged the 15 members of the council to firmly oppose Hamas, but diplomats said members led by Russia hoped for a broader focus than simply denouncing the Palestinian militant group.

The UN Middle East peace envoy Tor Wennesland briefed the council during its roughly 90-minute meeting.

In a very recent update, Because of the country's security situation, several Asian airlines have canceled their flights to Israel.

On Monday, Hainan Airlines, the sole Chinese carrier operating between China and Israel, canceled all flights between Shanghai and Tel Aviv. Tuesday's flight between Hong Kong and Tel Aviv was likewise canceled by Cathay Pacific at the same time.

Korean Air canceled its flight between the port city of Incheon and Tel Aviv on Monday and said it expects future flights to be irregular.

Iran has denied any involvement in the unprecedented attacks launched by Hamas within Israel. According to a statement issued by Iran's mission to the UN, they stand in unflinching support of Palestine. However, they have clarified that they are not involved in Palestine's response as it is taken solely by Palestine itself.
