In the ongoing race of the OTT Platforms, today Jio cinema has 400million + viewers on the live match streams of IPL. Apart from just being a platform for cricket lovers, it has also brought rights to showcase other international films from HBO, NBC, and Warner Bros.
Ambani’s Jio has sparked a price war in the Indian Continent by making most of these available to binge for free.
His step into streaming has transformed the reliance industries into the country’s leading digital group. According to a graph by the Financial Times comparing popularity from the previous year, Jio Cinema has surpassed Disney to claim the top position.

As per Uday Shankar, investor and Director of the parent company Viocom 18, their goal is to get a larger number of people not to watch TV and move to Jio cinema if that mission still needs to be completed.
This year Jio Cinema made IPL free to watch online hence becoming the most downloaded video streaming application the last month, as per the reports by mobile analytics company Data.ai
Shankar believes that providing free, content for mobile phones is crucial in India, where Western-style subscription packages are often unaffordable for a significant portion of the population. He asserts that opening the doors to a broader base is the only way to create value in mass media.
Jio Cinema is targeting more affluent customers with English-speaking audiences who will pay to watch HBO and other global network. The best of Hollywood package is currently available at almost half the cost of Netflix’s cheapest mobile-only subscription.
As per a Hindustan Times, The program budget for JioCinema is ₹3500- ₹4000 crores which is a very high number and can shake up the competition. With its comprehensive coverage and disruptive approach, Jio Cinema is poised to become the number one OTT platform in the country.
