Last month a planned layoff in Meta was announced, which saw its implementation this Wednesday. This time the focus was on the technical roles, and many employees said goodbye to their jobs. As per sources, another layoff is expected to happen this May.

Following the layoff round in the last quarter of the year, 2022, CEO Mark Zuckerburg announced further layoffs as a part of Meta’s “Year of Efficiency”. In November 2022, about 13% of the workforce had to say goodbyes to the company.

As per the recent news covered by CNBC, Job cuts have now started. Further, it is planned that business-facing roles will also have to say goodbye in the upcoming month. It is estimated that 10,000 jobs will be eliminated across Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram, and Reality Labs. Due to this layoff, many projects are expected to get dissolved.

Although, the number of employees laid off this Wednesday is not known yet.

Teams will get reorganised. Employees at Metaverse companies will be reassigned to work under new management as a part of the ‘Year of Efficiency’ plan.

Meta already cut 13% of jobs in November and at this rate, by the end of the year, the company would’ve cut 21,000 jobs in total.
