Investor sentiment soared on Thursday as Chandrayaan-3 accomplished a successful landing near the lunar south pole, propelling India into an exclusive club of nations that have achieved this milestone—joining the ranks of the U.S., Russia, and China. The spacecraft, which was launched last month, made its lunar touch-down at 6:04 p.m.
As of 9:45 a.m., the NSE Nifty witnessed an impressive surge of 0.60%. Paras Defence And Space Technologies Ltd. took the lead with remarkable gains exceeding 12%, closely followed by Centum Electronics Ltd., which surged over 10.30%. Avantel Ltd. saw an 8.20% jump, while MTAR Technologies Ltd. advanced by more than 1.50%. Among the 51 stocks on the Nifty, an overwhelming majority of 49 stocks advanced, leaving only two in decline. The S&P BSE Sensex mirrored this positive trend, surging by 0.48% or 312 points as of 10:31 a.m.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on this remarkable achievement. "This marks a historic moment and signals India's journey towards development," commented Modi, who observed the historic landing live from South Africa. Chandrayaan-3 took off from Sriharikota on July 14th. Its operational span on the lunar surface will span one lunar day, equivalent to 14 Earth days.
