Agathe Hilairet: A Community's Heartbreak
It’s hard to believe it’s been a week since 28-year-old Agathe Hilairet vanished. She went for her usual morning jog near Vivonne, in the Vienne region of France, on Thursday, April 10th, 2025, and just… disappeared. It’s devastating for her family, friends, and the entire community. The initial investigation into her disappearance was, understandably, treated as a missing person's case. But things took a frightening turn, and it's now a full-blown criminal investigation into kidnapping and confinement. That speaks volumes about how serious this is.
The Search: A Race Against Time
Her father reported her missing that afternoon, and the search began immediately. Over 100 gendarmes, aided by specialized search dogs, drones, and even divers, scoured a 100-square-kilometer area. Imagine the sheer scale of that – it’s a massive undertaking. Despite all their incredible efforts, Agathe’s still missing. The search has now narrowed to a smaller, three-square-kilometer area near “Les Grands Ormeaux” and “Le Champ Salaud” in Voulon. Her phone’s last known location pinpointed this spot.
Who Was Agathe?
Agathe was an experienced runner, a member of the "Vivonne Loisirs" running club. She loved trail running and regularly covered distances of 15 to 20 kilometers. But there was another side to her story. For 14 years, she’d been battling anorexia, a struggle she openly shared on social media. This, along with her generally fragile nature, adds another layer of complexity to the investigation. While the police considered the possibility of a runaway, evidence found at her home seems to rule that out.
A Town United in Grief and Hope
Agathe’s disappearance has shaken the small town of Vivonne. Mayor Rose-Marie Bertaud expressed the community’s deep worry and solidarity, highlighting the residents' incredible commitment to helping with the search. Following a public appeal for information, numerous testimonies have been collected. The investigation continues intensely, exploring every possible lead to bring Agathe home and uncover the truth. It's a heartbreaking situation, but the town's resilience is truly inspiring. The support for Agathe’s family is palpable.
