Israel has declared a "state of war" and initiated airstrikes on the Gaza Strip in response to a surprise rocket attack by Palestinian Hamas militants. Hamas claimed this attack was their "first strike," prompting Israel's Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, to assert in a video statement that the country is now at war.

Netanyahu emphasized, "We are at war, and we will win," rejecting terms like "operation" or "round" and emphasizing the gravity of the situation.

These remarks came in a televised address, marking Netanyahu's first response to the multi-front attack by Hamas. He ordered the call-up of reservists and pledged that Hamas would face a severe reckoning, unlike anything experienced before.

The Israeli Prime Minister also instructed the military to clear towns infiltrated by Hamas militants, where they remained engaged in armed confrontations with Israeli forces.

This escalation followed Palestinian militants' declaration of a "war" against Israel, as stated by the country's defense minister, in the wake of a rocket barrage and the infiltration of fighters from Gaza into Israel. Tragically, at least two people were killed in Israel. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant affirmed that Hamas had indeed "launched a war against the State of Israel."

Israeli troops found themselves in combat situations at multiple locations, leading to Israel's military launching airstrikes on Gaza in response to the rocket attacks.

The military disclosed, "Dozens of IDF fighter jets are currently striking a number of targets belonging to the Hamas terrorist organization in the Gaza Strip."

Simultaneously, the Israeli military targeted areas in Gaza, causing continuous air raid sirens to blare as far as Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Israeli forces were engaged in gunfights with Hamas militants who had managed to infiltrate Israel in at least seven locations, including crossing the separation fence and even breaching Israeli territory via air incursions.
