Amid a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, tensions between India and Pakistan soar as India blasts Pakistan’s Army Chief for his provocative comments on Kashmir.
Pahalgam Terror Attack Leaves India in Shock
A devastating terrorist attack rocked the Pahalgam region of Jammu and Kashmir earlier this week, leaving the nation in mourning. Authorities suspect the assailants infiltrated from Kishtwar, traversing through Kokernag before reaching Baisaran.
This incident is among the most violent in the region in recent years and has intensified public anger and calls for action.
Lashkar-Linked TRF Claims Responsibility
The Resistance Front (TRF), believed to be a proxy of the banned Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), took responsibility for the assault. This declaration came just days after controversial comments by Pakistan's Army Chief, General Asim Munir.
What Did Pakistan's Army Chief Say?
Speaking at an event for overseas Pakistanis on April 16, General Munir reignited tensions by calling Kashmir Pakistan’s "jugular vein" and reaffirming support for what he called the Kashmiri people's "struggle against Indian occupation."
He also invoked the two-nation theory, asserting a deep cultural and ideological divide between Hindus and Muslims.
"Our religions, customs, and ambitions are different. We are two nations, not one," Munir stated.
Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir spews hate against #Hindus and propagates the #TwoNationTheory, which failed in 1971 when Bangladesh got independence from Pakistan. He asserts that children must be taught such "falsehoods" since it's easier to brainwash youth. Shameful! pic.twitter.com/vaVZhEK4v8

India Responds Strongly
India immediately condemned the remarks. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal criticized the language used, stating:
“How can anything foreign be in a jugular vein? Jammu and Kashmir is, and will always be, an integral part of India.”
India reiterated that the only relationship Pakistan has with the region is to vacate the illegally occupied territories.
Sibal and Others Slam ‘State-Sponsored’ Terror
Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal labeled the Pahalgam attack a "state-sponsored" act of terrorism, referencing Munir's statement as clear evidence of premeditated aggression.
"This attack was well-planned. The valley is a high-security zone near the Amarnath shrine. The route suggests calculated planning," Sibal said.
Global Terror Concerns Persist
India also responded to Pakistan’s attempts to distance itself from Tahawwur Rana, a Canadian national of Pakistani origin linked to the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
“Pakistan continues to shield those responsible for global terror,” Jaiswal said, following Rana’s extradition to India earlier this month.
Public Outrage and Diplomatic Fallout
Indian citizens, politicians, and defense experts have widely condemned the Pahalgam incident and Munir’s remarks. Many see it as an attempt to destabilize the region and fuel separatism.
The timing of Munir’s speech and the attack has led to increased scrutiny of Pakistan’s involvement in cross-border terrorism.
