In the latest rankings released by the US-based consultancy firm 'Morning Consult' on December 7, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has once again emerged as the world's most popular leader, maintaining a high approval rating of 76 percent.

This places him at the top of the list, followed by Mexico's President Andrés Manuel López Obrador with a 66 percent approval rating. Switzerland's President Alain Berset secured the third spot with a 58 percent approval rating, while former Brazilian President Lula da Silva and Australia's Prime Minister Anthony Albanese held the fourth and fifth positions, respectively, according to the weekly survey conducted by Morning Consult.

The data, collected from November 29 to December 5, 2023, showcases varied approval ratings among global leaders, where US President Joe Biden ranked eighth with a 37 percent approval rating. The lowest approval rating was attributed to the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Petr Fiala, at 16 percent, while UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak received a 25 percent approval rating.

In terms of disapproval ratings, Prime Minister Modi had an 18 percent disapproval rating, while President Obrador of Mexico garnered a 29 percent disapproval rating.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in India celebrated Prime Minister Modi's achievement, citing it as an endorsement of his leadership and governance model. BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla emphasized that this international recognition further solidifies Modi's standing and predicted that it would reflect positively in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The approval ratings from Morning Consult are derived from a seven-day moving average of adult residents in each country, with varying sample sizes considered for the survey.
