Outrage has erupted in response to a Seattle police officer's callous comment regarding the life of a young Indian graduate student who was tragically killed by a speeding patrol car. Diplomats from India are demanding an investigation into the incident as Seattle residents express their anger over the insensitive remarks captured on the officer's bodycam video.

The recently released footage reveals Officer Daniel Auderer, the vice president of the Seattle Police Officers Guild, sharing jokes with the president of the police union after a police car driven by Officer Kevin Dave struck 23-year-old Jaahnavi Kandula at a crosswalk on January 23. Dave had been driving at an alarming 74 mph (119 kph) in a 25 mph (40 kph) zone while responding to an overdose call.

Protests erupted at the Seattle intersection where Jaahnavi Kandula lost her life. She had come from Andhra Pradesh to pursue a master's degree at Northeastern University's South Lake Union campus and was expected to graduate in December 2023.

Despite immediate transportation to Harborview Medical Center, Jaahnavi succumbed to her injuries. The incident, which occurred nine months ago, has only recently gained attention.

Actress Priyanka Chopra took to her Instagram account to express her reaction to the tragic news of Jaahnavi Kandula's death. In her post on Saturday night, she conveyed her shock, stating, "It's appalling to learn that such a tragic incident that happened 9 months ago is only coming to light now. A life is a life. One cannot put any value on it." The incident has ignited widespread concern and calls for justice for Jaahnavi Kandula.
