Thursday saw the introduction of Threads, a brand-new text-based microblogging network created by Facebook's parent company Meta. What is astonishing is the fact that within 24 hours of its launch Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta announced that Threads has reached 30 million users.
There are already more than 55 million active Threads users, judging by the number of badges that indicate when someone joined the platform and displayed on Instagram accounts.
With so much going on, Twitter did not back down as it responded with a letter, which came out as a warning for Meta. The letter clearly stated to sue the company because they hired Twitter employees who held important trade secrets.
Reacting to the same news, Twitter owner Elon Musk stated that he is fine with competition but not cheating. In his words, the reply read “Competition is fine, cheating is not”.
How to be on Threads?
Are you also looking to make an account on Threads, and looking for a way to be there?
Well, users of the iOS version of the Instagram app may use the search bar to look for a ticket to obtain Threads by entering P92 and the name of the app. The ticket helps direct the user to the App Store, from where the app can be downloaded.
Android Users can find the app in the Google play store. The app uses Threads.net as a home for its download page and public profiles. Threads.com has been used since 2002 and is now home to a Slack alternative.
How to Sign-up for threads
The signing-up process is easy, as one can sign-up for Threads using their Instagram account. Further, Threads gives users the option to fill out their public profile and follow the same people as they do on Instagram during the signup process.
What are the Privacy concerns surrounding Threads?
The privacy warnings in the app, which describe how a lot of your data would be connected to your identity, worried several users who downloaded the app.
Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey was one of the privacy detractors, tweeting about the app's requirements for personal data.
Musk contributed to the attention-grabbing nature of tweets concerning Thread's privacy disclosures with succinct comments. This may be the reason why Threads won't debut in the EU and US at the same time.
Even PrivacyHawk's CEO and co-founder, Aaron Mendes, offered the following response to privacy worries:
The Threads App is just releasing all the information that Facebook and Instagram, which are both their main applications, *might* acquire. Not everyone has their information collected, though. What you give them access to and how you use the app will determine how you feel. However, it serves as a reminder of the breadth of information that Meta gathers about its customers and that, when you use any of its services, you are the product.
