Former U.S. Representative Tulsi Gabbard has strongly criticized European nations for what she calls hypocrisy in their support for Ukraine while enforcing restrictive policies within their own borders. In an interview with Fox News, Gabbard accused European leaders of contradicting democratic values while backing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the ongoing war with Russia.

Her remarks followed a tense Oval Office meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Zelenskyy, where Trump pushed Ukraine to negotiate a deal or risk losing U.S. support. European nations reaffirmed their support for Ukraine, but Gabbard saw this as contradictory to their own policies that she believes suppress freedoms.

Gabbard Calls Out European Leaders

During an interview with Fox News anchor Shannon Bream, Gabbard addressed the reported celebrations by Russian leaders over the heated Trump-Zelenskyy meeting. Instead of focusing on Russia’s reactions, she turned her attention to Europe’s actions.

“They’ll say whatever serves their agenda. What we need to focus on here in America is what benefits the American people,” she stated.

Gabbard argued that the Biden administration lacked decisive leadership and praised Trump for prioritizing peace negotiations. According to her, many European leaders claim to uphold democratic principles but, in reality, implement policies that suppress free speech and personal freedoms.

“We heard very clearly during Vice President JD Vance’s speech in Munich how European allies are enforcing policies that undermine democracy. They don’t truly believe in people’s voices being heard,” she added.

She specifically mentioned restrictive measures in the UK, Germany, and Romania, highlighting instances where democratic processes were compromised.

Tense Exchange Between Trump and Zelenskyy

The meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy at the White House was tense, with Trump making it clear that Ukraine needed to negotiate peace or risk losing U.S. support.

“You're either going to make a deal, or we're out. And if we're out, you’ll have to fight on your own. It won’t be pretty, but you don’t have the leverage,” Trump told Zelenskyy.

Vice President JD Vance also pressed Zelenskyy, questioning whether Ukraine truly appreciated the aid the U.S. had provided since the war began in 2022.

As part of the Trump administration’s strategy for Ukraine, negotiations are underway to secure U.S. access to Ukraine’s mineral resources in exchange for continued military and financial assistance.

Zelenskyy Responds to the Controversy

Later, Zelenskyy sat down for an exclusive interview with Fox News anchor Bret Baier. When asked whether he planned to apologize to Trump for the confrontation, Zelenskyy avoided a direct answer but expressed his respect for the U.S.

“I respect President Trump and the U.S.,” he said, without directly addressing whether he regretted the exchange.

Conclusion

Tulsi Gabbard’s strong remarks highlight growing tensions between the U.S., Europe, and Ukraine. Her criticism of European nations’ internal policies while supporting Ukraine raises questions about their commitment to democratic values. Meanwhile, Trump’s firm stance on negotiations with Ukraine signals a shift in U.S. foreign policy. The global response to this unfolding situation will determine the future of U.S.-Ukraine relations.
