Ukraine claims 30 North Korean soldiers were killed or injured in Russia's Kursk region amid ongoing conflicts

Ukraine previously alleged that over 10,000 North Korean soldiers have been sent to support Russia in its war against Kyiv. These troops are reportedly involved even in the Kursk border region.

Ukraine announced on Monday that its troops had killed or injured at least 30 North Korean soldiers deployed by Russia in the western Kursk region. This area has seen ongoing conflict as Ukraine regains control of some territories.

Russia has brought in thousands of North Korean soldiers to reinforce its forces, including in the Kursk border region. This region has been a hotspot of fighting since Ukraine launched a surprise offensive earlier this summer, pushing Russian troops back in several areas.

According to Ukraine’s military intelligence, North Korean soldiers stationed in Russia suffered significant losses during battles on December 14 and 15 near the villages of Plekhovo, Vorozhba, and Martynovka in the Kursk region. The statement reported, “At least 30 soldiers were killed or wounded during the clashes.”

The deployment of foreign troops, including those from North Korea, highlights the intensifying nature of the conflict in the region.

North Korea Sends Troops to Support Russia in Ukraine Conflict

Russia is reportedly deploying North Korean soldiers to assist in its ongoing conflict with Ukraine. According to Western officials, North Korea has sent at least 10,000 soldiers to support Moscow’s military efforts. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on Saturday that North Korean personnel are being used in joint units alongside Russian troops, particularly in the Kursk region, where Ukraine carried out an incursion in August.

Zelenskyy revealed that these North Korean troops are actively participating in military operations to push Ukrainian forces out of the region. He also mentioned that there are indications they might be deployed to other parts of the front line.Reports suggest that losses among the North Korean soldiers have already been significant.

This development highlights the growing military ties between Russia and North Korea since Moscow's invasion of Ukraine began. Last week, Russia's defense ministry announced that its forces had recaptured small settlements in the Kursk region.

However, Ukrainian sources say Kyiv now controls around 800 square kilometers of territory in the area, a reduction from the 1,400 square kilometers it previously claimed. The involvement of North Korean troops adds a new layer to the ongoing conflict, further underscoring the international complexities surrounding the war in Ukraine.
