Victor Chang was born in the year 1986. During his young years, he studied the fields of medicine and surgery at the University of Sydney. This was just the beginning of his pioneering work in the fields of cardiac and transplant surgery.
Today, He is known for his contributions to the field of medicine, which include the development of an affordable artificial heart valve and successful heart transplants.

After beginning his residency training at St. Vincent’s Hospital and working at several hospitals around the world he returned to Australia and then followed his path to became a cardiothoracic surgeon at Sydney's St. Vincent’s Hospital.
Dr. Chang successfully performed a heart transplant on the youngest Australian patient, Fiona Coote, who was 14 years old at the time of surgery, in 1984. Two years later, Coote received a second heart transplant. She is currently Australia's longest-surviving heart transplant recipient.
Dr. Chang's medical advancements have also been recognized with numerous awards, demonstrating the breadth of his contributions.
Dr. Chang was dedicated to improving global healthcare and was enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge and skills. Later, In 1984 he founded the Victor Chang Foundation.
The Research Institute was established in honor of Dr. Chang's legacy.
