The World Pharmacist Day is celebrated annually on September 25th to recognize the important role that pharmacists play in healthcare. The day was established by the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) in 2009 to promote the profession and to raise awareness about the vital contribution made by pharmacists to patient care. This year's theme "Pharmacists: Strengthening the Health Systems" highlights the contributions made by them in strengthening our health systems. The day is celebrated in many countries around the world with events and activities aimed at promoting the pharmacy profession and its contribution to healthcare.

The significance it holds

World Pharmacist Day is significant because it is observed globally to recognize and express gratitude for the vital role pharmacists play in our communities. Pharmacists play an important role in informing the public about medications, ensuring the safe use of healthcare and pharmacy products, and raising global awareness about health-related issues.

Every year, World Pharmacist Day highlights significant themes and serves as a source of inspiration for future generations of pharmacists, encouraging them to continue the remarkable efforts of improving healthcare and improving the health and wellness of people all over the world.

History

World Pharmacist Day dates back to the 2009 International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) Congress in Istanbul, Turkey. This one-of-a-kind event was created to emphasize the critical role of pharmacists and pharmacy experts in the field of healthcare.

The FIP is in charge of setting up the yearly World Pharmacists Day campaign, with the FIP Bureau selecting the theme each year. It is worth noting that the FIP introduced World Pharmacy Week in 2020, expanding the celebrations to encompass the entire pharmacy profession and inclusively acknowledging all sectors within the pharmacy field.

The theme for 2023

The theme of World Pharmacists Day 2023 is "Pharmacy: Strengthening Health Systems," recognizing pharmacists' critical role in improving global healthcare systems. The theme highlights the crucial connection between pharmacy services and larger healthcare systems, highlighting their significant role in enhancing healthcare delivery effectiveness and efficiency. This theme emphasizes pharmacy's critical role in sustaining and strengthening healthcare systems, which ultimately benefits individuals and communities.

Pharmacists Impacting the Global Health

Non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, chronic respiratory conditions, and mental health are included in UN Sustainable Development Goal 3, as are communicable diseases such as HIV, tuberculosis, and neglected tropical diseases. Pharmacists have played an important role in the advancement of these healthcare sectors. The COVID-19 pandemic, on the other hand, has posed significant challenges. In response to these challenges, FIP President Dominique Jordan has emphasized the critical importance of a comprehensive and effective rebuilding process. The World Pharmacists Day message for 2023 highlights the importance of empowering pharmacies to have a greater impact.

Finally, World Pharmacist Day is significant because it globally recognizes and appreciates pharmacists' invaluable contributions to healthcare systems. It was inspired by the 2009 FIP Congress and raises awareness about health-related issues for future generations of pharmacists. This day serves as a reminder to honor and thank these brave people for their vital contribution to our well-being.
