Nintendo Switch 2 Lands in Canada: Whoa, Nelly!
Okay, so the Nintendo Switch 2 is finally here. Remember all the hype? Well, it’s real, and it’s… pricey. They announced this thing with a huge fanfare, promising a bigger screen, better graphics, and even a built-in GameChat. Impressive, right? But let's talk about that price tag. This is what I've dug up on the Canadian release.
How Much Will it Cost Me?
The basic Switch 2 will set you back $629.99 CAD. Ouch, right? If you want the bundle that includes the new Mario Kart World game, you’re looking at $699.99 CAD. Pre-orders opened April 9th, 2025, through Nintendo's website and the usual suspects – Best Buy, GameStop, that kind of thing. Interestingly, Nintendo initially prioritized pre-orders for people with a 12-month Nintendo Switch Online membership and at least 50 hours of gameplay. Go figure.
What's the Big Deal? Let's Talk Features.
First off, that screen. It's a 7.9-inch LCD, a noticeable jump from the original. Handheld resolution is 1080p, and it bumps up to 4K when docked. Pretty sweet. They've redesigned the Joy-Cons, and now they magnetically attach – which is way cooler than it sounds. Plus, they added a unique mouse functionality for certain games. Honestly, who saw that coming? The internal storage is a major upgrade too, now boasting 256GB. Finally, there's a new "C" button that activates GameChat, letting you voice chat with up to 12 players. (You’ll need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription after March 2026, though.)
Games, Games, and More Games!
Launch titles include Mario Kart World (naturally), Donkey Kong Bananza, and Kirby Air Riders. Nintendo also announced some pretty big third-party exclusives like Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment and The Duskbloods from FromSoftware. That’s pretty exciting news for a lot of fans! It’s also backward compatible with a bunch of older Switch games, but here’s the catch: you need a microSD Express card. Standard SD cards won’t work.
Is it Worth the Hype (and the Price)?
Let's be real, the price is a serious jump from the original Switch. Those extra features and new games are tempting, sure, but that hefty price tag might give some people pause. It really comes down to your gaming habits and how much you’re willing to spend. But, the 4K output, magnetic Joy-Cons, and GameChat are pretty compelling reasons to upgrade, if you ask me.
Thinking about pre-ordering? You can check out Nintendo's website or your favourite retailer. Don't delay – this new generation of gaming is calling your name!
