Oppo Find X8: My Honest Take on This Phone

So, 2024's phone lineup was pretty stacked, right? And the Oppo Find X8? It definitely held its own. After a little break from the global market, Oppo’s back with a phone that’s a real performer. It’s not reinventing the wheel design-wise, but it’s got some seriously impressive specs under the hood. I spent some time with it, and here’s the lowdown based on my experience.

The Look and Feel

The Find X8’s design is…familiar. It’s got that sleek brushed metal look around the edges, kinda like an iPhone, with nicely rounded corners. It’s surprisingly slim and light at 7.85mm thick and 193g – seriously comfortable to hold one-handed. The matte glass back is a lifesaver; fingerprints are barely noticeable. And it’s got IP68/IP69 rating, so it’s pretty tough against water, dust, and even a bit of rough handling. I really appreciated the OnePlus-style alert slider – a nice touch for quickly silencing notifications.

But, there's a trade-off. That central camera bump, while smaller than on previous models, is still pretty noticeable. And it wobbles a bit on some wireless chargers, which is a minor annoyance. The exposed cameras in that “Cosmos Ring” module might also bother some people – it’s a bit of a design choice that divides opinion.

Screen and Sound

That 6.59-inch AMOLED screen though? Wow. The resolution is sharp, the colors are vibrant, and even in bright sunlight, it’s easy to read thanks to that 1600 nits peak brightness (4500 nits for HDR!). The slim bezels make for a really immersive viewing experience. The 120Hz refresh rate is buttery smooth, and the customizable always-on display is a neat feature. The screen protection is pretty solid too, despite not being the absolute most scratch-resistant glass.

The stereo speakers are decent. They’re loud enough, and while the bass isn’t earth-shattering, it’s perfectly adequate for most things.

Camera Magic (and Some Not-So-Magic)

The Find X8 boasts a triple 50MP Hasselblad camera system (wide, ultrawide, and telephoto). Photos in daylight are stunning – sharp, detailed, and with really natural colors. And that AI-powered zoom? Up to 120x! It's amazing for capturing distant subjects. The video capabilities, especially in low light, are another highlight.

However, low-light photos aren't quite as impressive. You get decent detail, but there's a bit of softness and noise. Also, the AI enhancements can’t be completely turned off, which might frustrate those who like more manual control.

Power and Performance

This phone is a speed demon. It uses a MediaTek Dimensity 9400 processor, and it performs exceptionally well, even compared to dedicated gaming phones. Multitasking is smooth, apps launch quickly – it’s just generally responsive. The 5630mAh battery easily lasts a full day, even with heavy use. And that 80W fast charging? Game changer. It tops up the battery in no time.

Software and Updates

ColorOS 15, based on Android 15, runs really smoothly. It’s got a few iOS-inspired elements, which I didn't mind. There’s some pre-installed apps, but it’s not overwhelming. And Oppo promises five OS updates and six years of security patches – that’s great long-term support!

Final Verdict

The Oppo Find X8 is a strong contender in the mid-range flagship market. Performance and battery life are its absolute strengths. While the design isn’t revolutionary, its compact size, durability, and smooth software make it a compelling option. However, the lack of a charger in the box is a bit of a bummer, and the camera has a few minor weaknesses. Overall, though? It’s a solid phone, definitely worth a look if you prioritize power and battery life.
