PhysicsWallah has announced that it has raised $100 million as part of its series A funding from investors as it marks its entry into the Unicorn club of India, being its 101st entrant.

PhysicsWallah (PW) is a bootstrapped Ed-tech startup for engineering and medical entrance exams. It was founded by Alakh Pandey and Prateek Maheshwar in 2014 initially as a YouTube channel. Unknown to most people, Ed-tech giant Unacademy had offered to acquire the brand when it was growing famous as a YouTube channel, only to be turned down. Today, the app has 5.2 million Android downloads and it has 6.9 million subscribers on YouTube.

“This latest development will help us further our vision and implement new initiatives to augment the learning journeys of students, thereby enabling them to reach new heights in their careers. Our commitment remains that every dollar spent in Physics Wallah is for the greater good of learners,” Alakh Pandey said.

The company raised $100 million from Westbridge and GSV Ventures at a unicorn valuation. PW plans to utilize the funds for business expansion, branding, opening more offline learning centers, and introducing more course offerings, the company said in a statement.

After this round of funding, PW has joined the ranks of other Ed-tech majors like Unacademy, Byju's, Simplilearn, Upgrad, and Vedantu.
