Swiggy is a Bangalore-based food ordering and delivery company that began operations in August 2014 in Koramangala, Bangalore's start-up hotspot.
Swiggy's finest feature for being more successful is that there is no minimum order policy.
It has its tracking system, delivery boys, and cell phones to quickly reach customers based on their location.
Nandan Reddy and Sriharsha Majety, both BITS Pilani alumni, came up with the idea to establish a delivery management platform, which they built and launched in 2013 under the moniker 'Bundl,' before shutting down their business in June 2014.
They discovered the power of hyper-local delivery while working on the 'Bundl,' and brainstormed ways to use hyper-local delivery to grow the business and make it helpful to the people.
At the time of brainstorming, they encountered Rahul Jaimin, an IIT-Kharagpur alumnus (who is currently working as a developer for Myntra), and together, they decided to create a company called Swiggy.
Swiggy has teamed up with Burger King to deliver food.
It has also formed partnerships with Google Local Guide to assist customer reviews and with Sodexo to allow customers to purchase meal cards.
Swiggy has also teamed up with Indifi Technologies to offer partner eateries a lending service.
In conjunction with ICICI Bank, Swiggy also introduced Swiggy Money, a digital wallet.
GROWTH
The start-up produced high profits and created a significant difference in the way food was delivered to clients; they followed some basic rules to be successful, such as delivering meals to customers on time and having no minimum order policy.
Within 8 months of starting up, they received $ 2 million in funding from two venture capital firms (Accel Partners and SAIF Partners), and the rest is history.
Unveiling its plan on Monday, Swiggy, which has added 60,000 new restaurants in the past six months, said it would expand to 600 cities.
The company's net worth is $3.6 Billion. It is growing at a decent pace. There are 5000 restaurants affiliated with Swiggy and 3000 delivery boys.
They offer a variety of gift certificates and discounts to attract clients, but their main strength is the number of recurring customers who purchase food daily as a result of Swiggy's excellent service.
In terms of daily food orders, the online food delivery market is expanding 15% quarter over quarter.
To succeed in the service industry, one must provide the greatest possible service to our consumers.
The Indian restaurant sector is expected to be worth $30 billion by 2020 and is rapidly expanding.
During the pandemic lockdowns, Swiggy modified its model to stay up with the continuous shift in consumer thinking, focusing on creating trust and reassurance contextually for the market.
SWIGGY FOCUSES ON LOGISTICS
Swiggy learned a lot from the mistakes of other entrepreneurs, but their superior logistical operations are the driving reason behind their success.
Zomato, Tinyowl, and Foodpanda, for example, launched marketplaces in 2014 that connect clients with restaurants and outsource delivery to the restaurant or third-party logistics companies.
Swiggy's founders, on the other hand, were persuaded that to break into the food delivery business, they needed to create a large logistics network that provided them a competitive advantage.
The majority of food-tech companies now have their delivery fleets.
Swiggy, on the other hand, has been customer-focused since its inception.
Customer retention and repeat purchase rates were greater than any of the competition, even though it was first active in Koramangala.
FUTURE PLANNING OF SWIGGY
Swiggy announced on Monday that by December of this year, it will have expanded its presence to 600 cities and 200 universities across the country.
Swiggy claimed in a statement that it is currently available in 500 cities and 75 colleges.
The company has gotten an incredible reaction from tier 3 and 4 cities since its debut five years ago, allowing it to successfully penetrate even the tiniest markets across the country, it noted.
"Swiggy already has the largest reach in the country, with 500 cities and 75 colleges.
We plan to expand to 600 cities and 200 universities "Vivek Sunder, Swiggy's COO, stated.
Swiggy, on the other hand, continues to bring long-term value to the environment in these towns, he continued.
Swiggy's Launchpad Program aims to help students start Swiggy's operations at their colleges.
Swiggy sees students as its most powerful brand advocates, and the company expects to launch in more than 200 institutions.
