Yesterday, On 14th July, ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) successfully launched the third chapter of Chandrayaan from Satish Dhawan Space Centre which is located in Andhra Pradesh’s Sriharikota.
Meanwhile, when the team celebrated the successful launch of Chandrayaan 3, congratulations began pouring in for the team of scientists at ISRO.
Reportedly, There were about 54 female engineers/scientists who worked directly in the Chandrayaan-3 mission. They worked in various roles like associate and deputy project directors and project managers of various systems working at different centers.
However, The woman who is said to be at the helm of the Chandrayaan 3 mission and also popularly known as Rocket Woman of India, is Ritu Karidhal Srivastava.
Ritu played a role as the mission director of Chandrayaan 2 and deputy of operations mission director of Mangalyaan. Which reached the red planet’s orbit making India the first Asian Nation to achieve this so far.
Ritu was born in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow and pursued her BSc in Physics in 1996 from Lucknow University and her ME from Dept. of Aerospace Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru.
Space fascinated her and she developed a keen interest in exploring space at an early age. It is even stated that she used to collect news-related articles about any activity by ISRO and NASA.
She joined ISRO in November 1997 and worked on many prestigious missions of the Indian Space Organisation, playing a key role in many of them. Moreover, Karidhal has published more than 20 articles in international and national journals.
Till now, Ritu has received many awards including ISRO Young Scientist Award by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the ISRO Team Award for MOM (2015), the ASI Team Award, the Women Achievers in Aerospace Award by the Society of Indian Aerospace Technologies & Industries (SIATI)
