The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted a widespread crackdown on the terrorist-gangster-drug smuggler nexus, suspecting several suspects linked to 'listed terrorist' Arsh Dalla and notorious gangsters. This operation, which was aided by state police, took place in 53 locations across Punjab, Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
During the meticulously planned raids, law enforcement officers seized pistols, ammunition, digital devices, and compelling evidence. Not only was Arsh Dalla under investigation, but so were Lawrence Bishnoi, Sukha Duneke, Harry Maur, Narender alias Lali, Kala Jatheri, and Deepak Tinu, among others.
These actions mark the seventh phase of NIA's relentless pursuit following five cases initiated since August 2022, with two additional cases registered in July 2023. The investigations revolve around conspiracies involving targeted killings, terror financing for pro-Khalistan groups, and extortion by incarcerated gangsters operating both domestically and internationally.
The NIA's focus during these raids was on individuals associated with weapon supply, financing, and logistics for hardcore gangs working alongside drug smugglers and terrorists abroad, including Pakistan, UAE, Canada, and Portugal. The investigations have unveiled a network operating from jails across India, executing conspiracies with precision, such as the high-profile killings of builder Sanjay Biyani, mining trader Mehal Singh, and Kabaddi player Sandeep Nangal Ambia in Punjab.
Many criminals and gangsters formerly active in India have sought refuge abroad in recent years, orchestrating acts of terror and violence from foreign locations. These criminal groups have been responsible for targeted killings, raising funds through drug and weapon smuggling, hawala transactions, and extortion.
The NIA's relentless efforts have already resulted in significant progress, including the freezing of 87 bank accounts, the attachment of 13 properties, and the seizure of 331 digital devices, 418 documents, and two vehicles. The agency has declared two fugitives as designated individual terrorists and issued Red Corner Notices against nine others.
As investigations continue, the NIA remains committed to dismantling these networks, eradicating terror, violence, and extortion, and cutting off their sources of funding and support.
