In an exclusive report, sources have revealed that Toyota Motor is planning to establish its third car manufacturing plant in India, marking a significant expansion in its production capacity within the country for the first time in more than a decade. This development is attributed to Toyota's successful partnership with Suzuki Motor, which has led to increased domestic sales volumes.

The proposed plant is expected to commence operations with an initial production capacity ranging from 80,000 to 120,000 vehicles annually, with the potential to expand to around 200,000 units over time. This expansion would boost Toyota's existing manufacturing capacity in India by as much as 30%, currently standing at 400,000 units.

Furthermore, Toyota is embarking on the development of a new sport utility vehicle (SUV) tailored for the Indian market, set to be launched in early 2026. This SUV is anticipated to become a cornerstone product for the new manufacturing facility, according to insiders familiar with the company's plans. Due to the undisclosed nature of these expansion plans, the sources chose to remain anonymous.

Toyota's sales growth in India is largely due to its global collaboration with Suzuki, which introduces vehicles originally developed by their counterparts. Models like the Glanza hatchback and Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV now constitute 40% of Toyota's sales in India. Toyota plans to increase its annual production capacity to 500,000 vehicles by the end of the decade, including the models it will supply to Suzuki. This expansion comes as Toyota faces slowing growth in Europe and North America and increasing competition from Chinese automotive companies in Southeast Asia.

Toyota is expanding its car manufacturing facilities in Bidadi, Karnataka, with a third plant set to be established. The company has increased their annual capacity by 30% to over 400,000 vehicles. Toyota is working on a new C-segment SUV, the "340D," to bridge the gap between its Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Innova Hycross. The company is also exploring introducing a "mini" Land Cruiser model in India, with parts likely to be imported for assembly.
