BMW is back with another juicy tidbit, and this one is no mild facelift. The 2027 BMW M5 is getting a stylish makeover - it's more than skin deep. While the aggressive muscle-car DNA is here, BMW is covering it with the future’s Neue Klasse design language and a bunch of tech inside the cabin. Although this is a mid-cycle refreshing, we could easily see the M5 rolling out of the design lab of tomorrow. When you appreciate performance meets high-end design, you have to watch what they are doing. Here’s a closer look at how BMW is keeping the M5 legacy strong, but in a new way.

Neue Klasse Design: The M5 Wears the Future Now

The first thing that greets you about the 2027 BMW M5 is the new sleek, almost concept-esque front end. The kidney grill is now thinner and married better into the front end, with the chunky aggression of old models gone, replaced instead with a more sculpted, cleaner, more premium style. The headlights are thinner, and sharper, giving it an on-point and futuristic visage. At the back, we see a slight alteration to the taillights with a new light signature and a more cohesive bumper fitment. It's not bold in an extravagant sort of way, but rather subtly confident and high-class; similar to someone who doesn't have to prove anything, but still makes heads turn. This is what Neue Klasse is: modernity, minimalistic, due unmistakably to the design ethos and where the aesthetics centre about the badges.

Panoramic iDrive and Next-Gen Tech Make It Feel Like a Spaceship

Once you step inside, the cabin immediately screams that this is not just your standard performance sedan; this is a tech-filled luxury experience. BMW’s new Panoramic iDrive runs the length of the dash with an enormous 17.9-inch display with a fantastic visual interface that allows you to control virtually every aspect of the vehicle. It runs on BMW’s Operating System X, which is faster, smarter, and more intuitive than it has ever been. If you are adjusting the climate, creating a route, or switching between drive options, it is all done within one digital interface. Even the steering wheel has a new futuristic layout, which we highlighted with obvious hints during CES 2025. Everything here feels intentional and premium. It’s as if BMW asked, “How do we make this M5 not only fast but futuristic?”

Still Packs a Punch: 717 HP and Electrified Muscle

If you were scared the facelift downgrade for the M5 would come at the cost of performance—fear not. Beneath the fresh body the same beast is lurking—albeit a plug-in hybrid beast—delivering at least 717 horsepower and a blistering 738 lb-ft of torque. Seriously, that’s some serious power combining both electric responsiveness and twin-turbo V8 lunacy, albeit mildly tempered. And while it’s current electric-only range is rated at roughly 25 miles (EPA), there’s talk BMW might improve this minimally thanks to some battery good stuff inspired by Neue Klasse plans. Moreover, while the hybrid adds weight, the M5 is still one of the most balanced and exhilarating performance sedans on earth. The best part? It’s smarter, cleaner, and still outrageously rapid.

U.S. Arrival: When Can You Get One?

BMW enthusiasts in the United States can look forward to seeing the updated M5 hit showrooms sometime from mid to late 2027. It will officially begin production in March 2027, and since the United States is one of BMW's largest markets, it will very likely be one of the first major markets to receive the updated M5. This is a big deal for BMW, as the M5 is one of their legacy products and it is now being used to bridge the company's current offering to a Neue Klasse future. Whether you're a M5 die-hard fan, or more of a tech fan who is new to the brand, there is something genuinely enticing about the upcoming M5.
