Saying Goodbye to Anne

It’s with a heavy heart that we share the news of Anne’s passing. She died peacefully on April 3rd, 2025, at Sligo University Hospital, surrounded by the incredible care of the medical staff. It felt…peaceful, in a way. But peaceful doesn't quite capture the enormity of the loss. She leaves a hole in so many hearts.

Anne was so much more than just a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a vibrant force in our lives, a friend to everyone she met, and the heart of our family. Séan, her husband, Bridie (O’Dowd), her daughter, Séan, her son, and her sister, Mary – they’re all heartbroken, of course. And then there are the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whose lives she touched so deeply.

A Life Filled with Love

Honestly, trying to sum up Anne's life in a few paragraphs feels impossible. It was a life overflowing with love, laughter, and a quiet strength that was just… inspiring. She had a way of making everyone feel seen and valued. She was passionate about so many things; her family, of course, but also travel. She'd tell stories about her adventures with a twinkle in her eye, making even the most mundane details sound exciting.

Beyond her family, she dedicated herself to her community. The sheer number of people who are mourning her is a testament to the kindness she showed everyone. It’s a beautiful thing to witness, though bittersweet.

Saying Our Last Goodbyes

Anne will repose at The Sharkey Funeral Home, Ballaghaderreen, on Sunday evening from 5 pm. We'll be there to say our goodbyes one last time, and then there'll be a removal at 7 pm to Christ the King Church, Lisacul, arriving at 7:30 pm. The Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Monday at 11 am, followed by interment in Lisacul cemetery. Family flowers only please; donations in Anne’s memory can be made to Inis Aoibhinn Residence, University Hospital Galway, c/o Sharkey Funeral Directors.

Celebrating Anne's Legacy

The funeral is just the start. We're planning another memorial on April 21st. It’ll be a celebration of Anne’s life, a chance to share stories and memories, and to remember the woman who brought so much joy to our world. We want it to be a gathering of laughter and love, just the way she would have liked it.

This isn't just an obituary; it's a reminder to cherish every moment with our loved ones. Anne’s legacy is a powerful one—a legacy of love, laughter, and a life beautifully lived. Let's remember her not with sadness, but with gratitude for the immeasurable love she shared with all of us.
