Certain reports suggest that Indian conglomerate, Tata Group, has made an offer to buy a stake in India's largest & most famous mineral water company: Bisleri International.
Bisleri International is part of the Parle Group, which was founded by Jayantilal Chauhan in 1949. Bisleri was originally an Italian brand founded by Felice Bisleri and launched in India in 1965. However, the brand was struggling and subsequently sold to the Parle Group which has managed it ever since.
Harsha Engineers IPO is all set to open on Sept 14, read now.
Bisleri is India's most famous mineral water brand. It is estimated that the brand has a 32% (organized) market share in the segment, much higher than competitors like Kinley and Aquafina. Other than bottled water, the company also sells its own line of sanitizers, soft drinks, and club soda. The company has 122 operational plants and 4,500 distributors which distribute the company's portfolio of products pan-India.
"The Tata group has made the offer to Bisleri for a stake acquisition which it wants to scale up eventually. This would give the Tatas a massive foothold in packaged drinking water across the entry-level, mid-segment, and premium packaged water categories, and a ready go-to-market network across retail stores, chemist channels, institutional channels, including hotels, restaurants, and airports, besides bulk-water delivery, since Bisleri mineral water leads across each of these channels," a source told ET.
This news could be true considering the fact that the bottled water segment, 60% of which still remains unorganized, is estimated to be worth around Rs 20,000 crores & because Ajit Krishnakumar, COO at Tata Consumer Products Ltd. (TCPL), announced a week ago that TCPL would continue to grow its existing portfolio of food and beverage brands.
Moreover, Reliance Retail was also said to be in talks with the mineral water giant, but the same could not be confirmed.
