TCS and ITI secure a deal worth over $1.8 billion with BSNL, boosting India's software export. The agreement aims to enhance BSNL services, expand fiber optics, and provide mobile services to 100,000 towers, improving speed and reliability for users.

On May 22, a consortium led by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) disclosed that it had acquired an Advance Purchase Order (APO) from the government-owned telecom Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) for more than Rs 15,000 crore (about $1.8 billion). At times when its biggest markets, including the US and Europe, are slowing down, this acquisition will boost India's top software exporter.

Tejas Networks, a telecom equipment manufacturer for the Tata Group, is a member and will be in charge of providing and maintaining the Radio Access Networks (RAN) hardware. The state-run ITI Ltd was also given the APO for this project to TCS. Experts said ITI would receive around 20% of the deal's worth.

Following agreements for $723 million with the UK-based Phoenix Group and Marks and Spencer (M&S), this will be the IT services giant's third sizable contract in 2023. The M&S transaction reportedly cost $1 billion, even if the exact sum was unknown to the public.Talks over this agreement began in September of last year.

The Union Cabinet agreed to a Rs 1.64 lakh crore revival package for BSNL in July 2022, which includes Rs 43,964 crore in cash support and Rs 1.20 lakh crore in non-cash support.

Enhancing the quality of BSNL services, reducing financial stress, and expanding the use of fiber optics through the merger with Bharat Broadband Network Limited (BBNL) were the three main goals of the package.

In an effort to further expand the reach of 4G services in India, the Telecommunications Consultancy Services (TCS) and the Indian Telephone Industries (ITI) have come to an agreement to provide mobile services to 100000 towers and locations across India. This important development will bring new levels of speed, performance, and reliability to users who rely on mobile services provided by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).
