Introduction:

Do you know there are more than 100 million farmers in our nation? Farming has been the primary occupation of survival in the old days. It still is!

Better food grains, Ripped fruits, and vegetables all result from perfect background work. As the world is pacing faster towards technology, Farming lost its fame. It has become an activity performed by those who don’t have another means of survival or are farmers by heredity in the eyes of the world.

DeHaat was founded in 2012 with a vision of putting farmers first. It is one of India's largest full-stack agritech platforms. DeHaat provides solutions based on requirements at the farm like soil testing, high-quality input products, and 24*7 service on both virtual and in-person assistance.

Shashank Kumar’s Journey from IIT to Farming

Leaving his consulting job and an already set life after pursuing IIT. Shashank’s ambitions took him back to his roots in Patna. Shashank grew up in a lower-middle-class family with agriculture as the source of facilities.

He shared his challenging journey with DeHaat on the famous platform JoshTalks.

Approaching farmers wasn't as easy as the farmers thought of Shashank as another dreamer who just came to explore.

DeHaat started with only 14 farmers who gave a small portion of their land to test the possible results. Started from a small village in Patna, DeHaat has now expanded into 12 Indian Agrarian States, with a network of 11,000+DeHaat Centres and 530 FPOs, serving 1.8 million farmers.

DeHaat has now become a startup of great places to work. They have made it over the threshold with their phenomenal operations. Numerous organizations, including Forbes, ET, Niti Aayog, the Bill Gates Foundation, etc., have acknowledged it.

Transformation of Indian Agriculture with DeHaat

The AgriTech sector in India is growing at a faster rate. The traditional methods used in this field are long left behind. Knowledable farmers are now using digital techniques, initiatives, and landing in many portfolios.

As per the study done by Ernst &Young in 2020, this market could reach $24 billion by 2025. The numbers are pointing toward the possible technological impacts in the upcoming years.

Being one of those few investors in this growth, DeHaat gives tech-based 360-degree solutions to farmers. DeHaat provides end-to-end solutions to farmers with high-quality input material. They also  give customized advisory services, and a market link to sell their produce.

As per the article published in Itnews, last year the company tied up with SAP before which it was using ERP solutions. DeHaat decided to go with advanced technology based on their growing requirements.

DeHaat also provides knowledge to the rural communities so that they may help themselves by knowing the root cause of the problem.

AWS plays an important role in the smooth implementation and building of an efficient cloud ecosystem. They used multiple AWS platforms to provide overall tech development to the platform. As per an article featured in Your Story, DeHaat used Amazon RDS for their analytical services but later, as data grew they moved to a more unified Amazon Redshift. They even used AWS lambda and Fargate to support their services through websites and handle the traffic.

One of the reasons behind the success of DeHaat is the powerful use of technology. Through this technology, they are working to bring agricultural value offerings under one umbrella.

Intending to apply more innovation in the Indian Agricultural sector, DeHaat is working towards becoming Unicorn in the Agri Tech Sector. In an E-funding round led by Sofini and Temasek accompanied by Prosus Ventures, Lightrock India, and RTP Global India, DeHaat raised $60 million in December 2022.
