Suraj Tiwari, a resident of Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh, has achieved an extraordinary feat by securing the 917th rank in the UPSC Civil Services Exam 2022. Despite losing his legs, right arm, and two left-hand fingers in a devastating railway accident in 2017, Tiwari has shown unmatched dedication and perseverance.
The recent announcement of the UPSC results has brought joy and inspiration to Tiwari's family and aspiring candidates facing physical constraints. His achievement creates a shining example of accomplishing goals with perseverance and determination.
Early Life: Overcoming Adversity
Tiwari's journey to success revolves around hardships. His father, Rajesh Tiwari, is a tailor and runs a modest tailor shop in Kuravli. Rahul Tiwari, his older brother, had passed away just a few months before his accident.
After the tragedy, Tiwari struggled with depression and left Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) before finishing his BSc programme. It was a dark moment for the family.
However, Tiwari's resolve remained unshaken. This 26-year-old returned to Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and pursued a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Russian. Despite the difficulties the COVID-19 pandemic presented, Tiwari stayed committed to passing the UPSC exam.
What sets Tiwari's achievement apart is his approach to studying. Suraj studied for 15 to 16 hours daily to pass the UPSC exam, and he did so without receiving any coaching. He aced the written test on his first attempt but came up short in the interview by a few points. But his focused mind helped him secure success on his second attempt.
He had barely passed his Class 12 examinations in 2014, after failing in 2013. Can you believe it? In the UPSC-2022 results, he received the 917th rank. Tiwari's success is a testament to the power of resilience and the unwavering support of his family.
