Accountancy is deemed as one of the most esteemed and intellectual courses to be pursued in the Indian scenario. Most accountants are received with very high regards and Chartered Accountants are basically considered to be divinity descended down upon earth in human form. (Everyone seems to have a cousin who cleared the CA final exam and thus has been the bane of your existence ever since!)
And so, today we illustrate some very famous personalities, some of which are entrepreneurs, some are politicians and some are just living legends, but most importantly, they are all accountants. (not to worry, non-accountants can be successful too, maybe!)
Here they are:
CA Piyush Goyal
Piyush Goyal is the Union Minister of Railways and Commerce in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet. Moreover, since 2019, he has also held the position of Deputy leader of the Rajya Sabha.
Pretty cool, right? Oh! His full name is actually CA Piyush Goyal! (shocked Pikachu face!)
Apparently, he also has a brilliant academic record and he bagged the second rank in his Chartered Accountancy course. He was also a topper in his law exams at Mumbai University.
CA Motilal Oswal
The Founder of the Motilal Oswal Group. He has received many awards in his tenure including the ‘Excellent Business Achiever in Financial Services’ award and the ‘Udyog Rattan Award’ for his performance in the financial and industrial sectors.
Spoiler alert! He too is a CA.
Yes!
In fact, he is pretty honest and philanthropic too. The Indian government has awarded him with “Rashtriya Samman Patra” for being one of the highest taxpayers in the country over a period of 5 years. (Yup! That’s pretty cool!)
CA Deepak Parekh
The Chairman of the HDFC group, this guy leads the largest housing finance company in India. He is also a Padma Bhushan recipient. (living legends I tell you!)
Of course, He is also a CA. But he is most importantly known for revolutionizing the housing and finance sectors in India.
In fact, it is said that it is due to major efforts on his part, that middle-class people nowadays can afford to equip themselves with flats and proper housing by making use of affordable loans.
CA Kumar Mangalam Birla
Guess it's right!
The ‘Aditya Birla group’ guy!
And yes! He is also a CA along with having an MBA from the London Business College in his academic portfolio.
It is redundant to state but the Aditya Birla group is one of the most powerful business groups of India with it operating in 36 countries spread over 6 continents.
Apart from that, he is also a philanthropist and contributes frequently to noble causes to help Indian people.
CA Naina Lal Kidwai
One of the first Indian women to have graduated from Harvard University, She former Country Head and Group General Manager of HSBC, India. She was also the president of FICCI.
A qualified Chartered Accountant, she has also been conferred the prestigious Padma Shri by the Indian Government.
CA Rakesh Jhunjhunwala
Again!
This guy needs no introduction!
The Big Bull of the Indian stock market who was famously known as the “Warren Buffett of India”
One of the top 50 richest people of India, this guy’s stock portfolio is followed and taken inspiration from by many stock market enthusiasts.
And he was a CA too!
CA S. Gurumurthy
A famous journalist and a regular Indian Express editor, S. Gurumurthy is also a Chartered Accountant.
Whether it be his impeccable knowledge of accountancy or his unblemished journalism, he has contributed a lot to the country by being true with his journalism and having revealed many dark and criminalistic secrets of Indian society.
CA K. Rahman Khan
The former Union Minister of Minority Affairs and former Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, K. Rahman Khan is a politician of the Indian national congress.
He was also the Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers.
Apart from politics, he was also an accomplished academic. He is a qualified CA and he has also been awarded an honorary doctorate. (One might question if that makes him, Dr. CA K. Rahman Khan?)
He has also been awarded the CA Lifetime achiever award by the ICAI.
CA TV Mohandas Pai
The former CFO of Infosys, He is said to be a brilliant CA. Moreover, he is also a fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. His work in Infosys has helped the company a lot in transforming itself into one of the top tech giants of the country.
He is also a great leader and helps lead many philanthropic as well as corporate organizations.
CA Aditya Puri
Currently working as the senior advisor in Carlyle group, Aditya Puri is renowned for being the former managing director of HDFC bank and having worked in the banking sector for 40 years. (that’s almost half a century! Pretty great right?)
And of course, he is also a Chartered Accountant.
Not only that, but he has also been inducted into ICAI’s Chartered Accountants’ hall of fame.
