Welcome to Jobaaj Stories, we have turned some pages of inspiring stories today and found a Bookstagrammer who was born in Rajkot and raised in Mumbai.
Meet Kinjal Parekh, a Finance Writer, pursuing MBA in Marketing from NMIMS Global and a CFA Candidate who sorted a new route for herself by following a passion to learn more. But how did a Bookstagrammer end up working in the BFSI Industry?

This is Kinjal Parekh, an avid reader, finance writer, and anchor at Kotak Securities!
If I have to trace back to how I ended up in the BFSI industry, then I will have to connect the dots when I first started reading books.
I was never a reader but somewhere in 2016, one of my teachers asked me to read books by Khaled Hosseini. And once I finished reading, there was no turning back. I kept reading and looking for new books.
This was when I was in college and desperately wanted to discuss books with someone. None of my friends were readers. So I started my own bookstagram account where I started sharing my book reviews and recommendations and interacted with readers from around the world.
But then that was not enough. Instagram content is very short-lived, right? So I started with my own youtube channel. I wanted people to know who are they listening to if they were looking for book recommendations.
My Journey as a BookTuber
I was very camera shy and had zero editing or shooting now. But I badly wanted to get started, which provided me with a much-needed push.
This is when I learned all my skills - shooting, content planning, writing, basic editing, SEO, how to find trending topics, what one would want to consume, and what would not work. I even learned how to create and design a website while I was setting one up for myself.
Parallelly, I was studying for my graduation and post-graduation. Once I finished my grad, I was looking for jobs in various investment firms. I was very interested in finance, especially the research side of it. I was pursuing extra certificates and degree courses for the same.
But the weird part is, every time I get through the interview process they ended up offering me a marketing role. This happened for the first two jobs. I accepted it with the idea that I will change departments internally if things work out well.
But then there was a time when I realized that marketing finance is the niche I want to grow in. I was in love with my work of creating finance content. And going back to where I began, I reflect on my passion for reading books and the online spaces I set up for myself to discuss them.

Recommendations and Tips
So far, I’ve read more than 200 books and have a thousand on my TBR list! If I have to recommend you books then I’d say -
- The Kite Runner
- The Song of Achilles
- Tuesdays With Morrie
- Ghachar Ghochar
- All The Lights We Cannot See
Before we end this conversation, all I‘d say is to sharpen your skills because that is what sells. Add a layer of passion and willingness to do better things because that formula can do wonders! Warren Buffett once said that the more you learn, the more you earn - and I couldn’t agree more.
Today, I don’t know who I am if not a reader. I love promoting books and recommending and marketing new titles. I love the idea that I am able to make people buy books they had no idea they must be reading.
Over the years, I want to make a strong mark in the literature as well as the BFSI industry and be at the top of my work.
