Zero Cow Factory, an Indian biotechnology startup, has raised $4 million in a seed round led by Green Frontier Capital and GVFL. The Surat-based company produces animal-free dairy products using bioengineered microbes and precision fermentation.


Zero Cow Factory, a biotechnology startup, has raised $4 million (Rs.32 crore) in the seed round. The round was led by Green Frontier Capital and GVFL. Pascual Innoventures, an investment arm of the Spanish Dairy Group called Calidad Pascual also participated.

As per Company’s CEO, Sohil Kapadia, these funds will scale up the production capacity. Further, helping with regulatory approvals to go commercial.

It will also help them to make efforts in research and development.

Zero Cow Factory startup is the first Indian company that manufactures animal-free dairy products. Founded in 2021, this Surat-based company produces sustainable dairy products with bioengineered microbes and precision fermentation. 

Parini and Sohil Kapadia, founders of Zero Cow factory, aim to revolutionise the country's dairy industry with this initiative.

In a conversation with Economic Times, Kapadia highlighted that they are looking forward to starting from mature markets like the US and Singapore. 

The company claims to produce dairy proteins like casein without involving animals. They have developed a patented technology for that purpose. The company is aiming to be the first to get global regulatory consent for this protein.

Sustainable food and dairy products like cheese, ice cream, etc., can be formulated using the new protein.

As per the company, protein is free of lactose, saturated fat, and antibiotics. Its created to keep the process environment-friendly. The company is in the R&D stage and seeks to follow the b2b route. They’re looking forward to partnering with FMCG companies to provide products to the ultimate consumers.

As per Economic Times, Zero Cow Factory had raised an undisclosed amount in pre-seeds funds previously. It was led by global food tech investors Artesian VC and Brinc.
