Born and raised in the cultural capital of India, Kolkata, Sourav Karmakar always had a knack for numbers, patterns, and solving complex problems. Determined to transition into the field of data science, Sourav took a bold step—he pursued an M.Tech in Computer Science from the prestigious Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), one of India's top institutions for mathematics and data science. His hard work and perseverance paid off, as he not only completed the rigorous program but also secured the 1st rank in his batch.
His transition wasn’t easy. Coming from a non-computer science background, he had to master programming, statistics, and machine learning concepts from scratch. But his ability to learn fast, adapt, and solve real-world problems helped him succeed.
Sourav began his career in data science at Intuit as a Data Scientist, where he worked on financial forecasting models, fraud detection algorithms, and customer behavior analysis. His contributions didn’t go unnoticed—his innovative solutions led to improved model performance, automation, and business impact, earning him multiple accolades.
With a strong foundation in ML algorithms and data-driven decision-making, Sourav moved to Amazon as a Senior Data Scientist. Here, he worked on scalable AI solutions, customer segmentation models, and recommendation systems that directly impacted millions of users globally. His deep understanding of ML, AI, and optimization techniques made him a key player in Amazon’s data science initiatives.
Despite his success, Sourav never stopped learning. He remained deeply interested in exploring new machine learning techniques, AI research, and cutting-edge technologies. Whether it was reinforcement learning, deep learning, or NLP advancements, he kept upgrading his skill set, making him a true lifelong learner and innovator.
