Here is my Journey so Far!!
My First Role - An Introduction to this Field
In 2018, I received my Bachelor of Chemical Engineering degree from IIT Delhi. I came across a campus placement by Flipkart in which we had to submit a case presentation and go through several steps of screening. This led to my first position as a Product Manager in a two-year APM Programme.
Yes, it is when my journey began. At first, I was a part of the customer experience team. I worked on resolving client issues from the time they placed orders to the post-order experience. A year later, I got transferred to the recommendations team, where I was tasked with developing ML Models that propose products to Flipkart's target customers.
When I moved to Navi which was a startup in the tech space, I worked on the Underwriting Platforms where we used to understand whether a customer has a good credit history( in the absence of information based on their SMS and other information) and provide them loans.
I spent 1.5 years working on that in Navi before moving to Disney plus Hotstar to examine the new video consumption experience.
My Journey as A Product Manager
In 2018, When I started as a Product Manager, I had no clue about how to work with different departments like Engineers, Design teams, etc. However, Thinking from a Customer's Perspective was the only thing I knew, and I would continue to do that in the future.
I knew I'd be learning along the road, and I soon realized that everything we do should have a purpose.
- Why do we need to do it?
- How do we need to do it?
- What do we need to do to achieve this?
I've always appreciated emphasizing consumers' problems. Soon after, I realized that it is a much-needed ability that every product manager should focus on to provide the best possible solution to the problem. These teachings have had an impact on both my professional and personal lives. This is what I discovered on Flipkart.
After nearly three years at Flipkart, I joined Navi, a startup founded by Flipkart's founder. As it was a startup, I was allotted several important tasks, such as making decisions and ensuring that they were by the standards.
With me now working as a Product manager with Disney+Hotstar, I have garnered a good five years of experience. My role involves collaborating with international teams in design, management, and engineering. In terms of the advantages of being a product manager, I need to understand everything about a product to see it come to life.
Bringing Future Leaders to Product Escapes
In 2019, I began mentoring people in a Mentorship Buddy Programme with some of my friends. I guided the freshers, who were shortlisted for interviews, and helped them get through the list.
Even when I left Flipkart, I continued helping students to get into this field. I became a mentor in a program organized by Next Leap, where I have conducted about 50+ workshops for over 200+ learners. I enjoy mentoring people and helping them clear their doubts.
This is one of my accomplishments during the last two years. Product management is a complex area that requires one to be both creative and strategic. Moving forward in my mentorship career, I hope to work with students who want to be future product managers as a mentor at Jobaaj.
The Next Big Thing
I appreciate the product development process. Furthermore, as a product manager, I want to live by the mantra "creating something that delights people." Today, I am helping to solve some of the world's problems, which has been my goal for a long time.
As per my future aspirations, I want to build something of my own and buy a product focusing on design, engineering, and everything. As a result, create something that will excite the customers.
As a Coach/ Mentor, I give my 100% to focus on two things :
- First, I make things easy to understand and absorb. I try not to use much Big Jargon, which becomes a hurdle in simply learning and implementing. My students will have to pay close attention during the sessions, and I assure them they will not have to go back and think.
- Second, The more interactive the session is, the more students can grasp things. I focus on learners giving me directions to their doubts so that I can guide them through them.
So, I have big things planned for you. Enough with the Words, enroll today in my workshop!
Let's meet On-screen!
