Hello Readers,
Did you hear?
President Murmu has spoken about the Kolkata rape case!
President Droupadi Murmu gave her first public statement on the junior doctor’s rape and murder case as she was “dismayed and horrified”. She called the incident a series of crimes against women as she slammed the ‘collective amnesia’ of the country which forgot about all the cases since Nirbhaya. However, the matter has turned political as it is now BJP vs TMC! What did West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee do?
Mamata Banerjee is threatening doctors!?
Doctors have been conducting strikes throughout the nation as the healthcare system in the country was greatly impacted. OPD sessions of multiple hospitals were cancelled as the protests intensified. Amid these protests, Mamata Banerjee appealed to the protestors asking them to return to work. However, she also added that if an FIR was filed against them, their career would be ruined! Doctors considered this a ‘passive threat’ and objected against it! Then what?
She has denied making threats!
A day after protestors and the BJP slammed her for threatening doctors, Mamata Banerjee made a public statement claiming that she did not threaten anyone. She claimed that she was in favour of the doctors’ movement and that her words were being twisted in a ‘disinformation campaign’! As opposed to what doctors and BJP politicians said, she claims that she did not threaten anyone and was falsely accused of it! But her words are a little hard to believe.
Mamata Banerjee has threatened national unrest!!
In one of her sharpest comments, the WB CM claimed that if Bengal burned, the fires would spread throughout the country! With the BJP consistently slamming her government’s failures and the use of excessive force against protestors (water cannons, tear gas, and baton charging), Mamata Banerjee has announced that the fires of burning Bengal would spread across Assam, Manipur, Odisha, Bihar, and reach Delhi!! As one would expect, her provocative statements resulted in sharp condemnation!
BJP has fired back!
The BJP has slammed Mamata Banerjee for her remarks. Assam CM Hemanta Biswas criticized his WB counterpart for threatening Assam and accused her trying to incite hatred in India with her ‘politics of failure’! Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar went above and beyond that as he penned a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing her delivering inflammatory speeches and demanded ‘prompt and decisive action’ against her! Several other politicians have slammed her words as Kolkata remains engulfed in protests against its incompetent CM.
Speaking of Kolkata, did you hear?
KPMG plans to double its hiring in the city by 2025!!
KPMG, one of the Big 4 audit firms and a leading consulting firm worldwide, opened another office in Kolkata last year and has been increasing its operations in India. Interestingly, its not just KPMG.
Pwc and EY are also ramping up hiring as Deloitte alone has plans to hire around 50,000 people in India over the next 5 years! But why? Why are these firms, that are facing sharp cost headwinds at their HQs, actively hiring in India?
There are multiple reasons for that:
- India is the fastest growing major economy today as rapid and robust growth represents great business opportunities for these companies to make the most out of.
- India has weak labour law compliance so these companies can implement longer working hours.
- The Indian rupee is significantly weaker than the US Dollar, the dominantly used currency worldwide, so that gives companies an edge in terms of cost.
- India has the largest demographic advantage in the world with an average age of 28-29.
- Education levels in India have been growing over the years as skill development and practical learning from Edtechs have yielded several useful employees who can stand on par with professionals from other countries, at a lower cost!
- The government is incentivizing FDIs as setting up offices in India gets these companies certain benefits.
Thus, every major MNC, particularly those in the consulting sector, is rushing to set up/expand in India. According to hiring trends analyzed in studies by companies like Foundit, Taggd, and Manpower Group, hiring is set to expand between 8-20% in 2024 alone!
