Hello Readers,

It’s been a big week!

Do you know why?

India’s elections have come to an end!

After 6 long weeks of voting in extreme weather conditions, India’s 2024 General elections have ended. With a voter turnout of 66%, market experts were expecting the BJP, which has been in power for the last two terms, to win singlehandedly. The exit polls predicted the BJP, with its considerable fan following, to nab a staggering 350 seats and sweep the elections once again! However, the election results were a massive shock to the whole nation!!

The results were surprising!

Contrary to the exit polls, the BJP managed to get only 240 seats! Unlike the last two terms, where the BJP had sole majority, the BJP failed to get anywhere close to the 272 majority mark as its NDA alliance couldn’t get to 300 seats! In a surprising shock, the INC managed to get 99 seats in the Lok Sabha, making it the best performance by the party in the last 3 elections! But what was the result?

Narendra Modi becoming PM for a third time!

By relying on his allies, the TDP and JDU, PM Narendra Modi’s BJP formed the government for the third time in a row! The Indian financial markets were uncertain about the government, but written support by the bosses of TDP and JDU put the political chaos at rest as the BJP-led NDA alliance formed the government with Narendra Modi taking the helm of Prime Minister once again!

He took his oath this Sunday!

On 9th June, Narendra Modi took the Oath of Office and Secrecy as his swearing-in ceremony was a major event. Narendra Modi is the first Indian PM to be born in independent India and the second PM to be elected for 3 consecutive terms. 8,000 dignitaries attended his swearing-in ceremony including the leaders of Maldives, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Mauritius, Nepal, and Bhutan!

India’s economy will have another bright year!

In an unrelated development, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has hiked India’s fiscal growth forecast by 20 bps to 7.2% for FY25. According to RBI governor Shaktikanta Das’s press statement, the domestic economic activity was showing resilience as the country’s eight core industries were showing robust growth, and the Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) continued to be the highest globally! This will help the Indian economy grow even further and create new government jobs!

By the way, did you hear?

Equity Research is now a government job too!!

In a surprising development, the State Bank of India (SBI), India’s largest public sector bank, has released openings for specialized financial roles of Forex Analyst, Equity Research Analyst, and Private Equity Analyst. This is a major event as these roles were generally considered a private sector offering and people involved in such roles were often considered gamblers who gambled on the volatile stock markets!

However, that is now a thing of the past! Even the government of India now recognizes the importance of such roles. Why is Equity Research Analysis important?

Indian financial markets are the 8th largest in the whole world with a market capitalization of almost $5 trillion! Many investors invest in the markets as India’s growth story is one that rings loud throughout the whole world!

Interestingly, most people do not know that government agencies invest in the financial markets too! For example, LIC is India’s largest insurer and one of the largest institutional investors in the Indian markets! The company has an AUM of Rs 51 lakh crore with a portfolio of Rs 14 lakh crore as it pools the premium collected from the public and invests it in the financial markets to generate returns.

But can these companies make such decisions rashly?

No. Government agencies manage the hard-earned money from the public and are responsible for keeping them safe. Thus, the government also needs data-backed analysis to support its investment decisions.

That is where an Equity Research Analyst comes in. These analysts analyze the target company’s business, financials, overall industries, and financial markets to advise companies on their investment decisions. They help value target companies' stocks, the perfect entry positions, and targets per stock to ensure maximum returns while keeping risks low.

Moreover, equity research analysts can use their research to invest in the markets themselves! Imagine, you are being paid to work and conduct research and you use that research to make even more money!
