Hello Reader,
Did you hear?
France held snap elections!

After President Macron faced a humiliating defeat at the hands of the far-right National Rally (RN) party in the EU elections, he made a surprising decision to dissolve the lower house of Parliament and call for snap elections. While experts are uncertain about the reasoning, the move backfired big time as Marine Le Pen’s RN party gave President Macron’s party a humbling defeat in the first round! Interestingly, many other countries held elections at the same time!
Mauritania’s elections have ended!

The West African nation of Mauritania ended its elections as incumbent President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani won the 2024 Presidential elections with 56.12% votes in his favour. His immediate competitors Biram Dah Abeid and Hamadi Sidi El Mokhtar came in second and third respectively. While Abeid’s supporters protested against the results, the political conditions remained stable as the 67-year-old Ghazouani began his second term as President. But that’s not the end.
Iran held its Presidential elections!

After a shocking defeat for Bagher Qalibaf in the first round of voting held last week, Masoud Pezeshkian and Saeed Jalili faced off in the second round of voting. Pezeshkian topped the first round of voting while Jalili came in second. Qalibaf came in third and, in accordance with Iranian laws, was disqualified from the Presidential race. After a tough fight, reformist Masoud Pezeshkian emerged as the victor! But that’s still not the end!!
The UK held its General Elections!

After holding office for less than 2 years, Rishi Sunak was faced with another election as 4 parties fought against each other to get the top seat in the UK’s Parliament. The voting began on 4th July as Rishi Sunak’s Conservative Party, Keir Starmer’s Labour Party, Ed Davey’s Liberal Democrats, and John Swinney’s SNP campaigned and fielded candidates to get a majority in the UK’s 650-seat House of Commons! Interestingly, the results were out the very next day! What happened?
Kier Starmer is set to be the PM of the UK!

The Labour Party ended the Conservatives’ 14-year rule as they saw an overwhelming victory in the elections. Keir Starmer’s party won over 400 seats in the Parliament, giving them the majority necessary. In comparison, Rishi Sunak’s Conservatives faced their worst defeat in history, losing a staggering 240 seats in Parliament! Rishi Sunak apologized for the Conservatives’ defeat and resigned as Keir Starmer is all set to take over as the PM of the UK.
Interestingly, did you know Data plays a big role in these elections?
Yes, you read that right!
Data Analytics is a critical factor in election campaigning in the 21st century. With the growth of technology and the use of data-driven insights to gain a competitive advantage, elections have now become reliant on ‘Data’. It provides the following benefits:-
- Data Analytics helps political parties segment voters and target them with targeted messages.
- Bifurcating voters based on preferences, geography, and demography gets easier.
- Targeting voters via social media ads and campaigns and monitoring its effectiveness becomes possible.
- Data Analytics also helps parties craft political campaigns.
- Finally, boosting voter experience to ensure votes is also an added benefit.
Interestingly, politics is not the only field where Data Analytics is growing. With technology being applied to every aspect of our lives, companies are gathering an unprecedented amount of data every day! A recent estimate suggested that around 402.74 million TB of data was being generated on a daily basis!!

With an ever-growing gold mine that can boost company performance, every company now seeks competent Data Analysts who can derive the right kind of insights and help management decision-making. However, the supply is not enough to meet growing demand.
