There’s chaos in Bangladesh!

Political unrest engulfed Bangladesh as protests took over the country. Hundreds of thousands of citizens took to the streets as they clashed with police forces, resulting in the deaths of dozens of people and even more injured. Interestingly, the protests, which began to remove unfair quotas, grew to demand the resignation of incumbent PM Sheikh Hasina! As the protests grew out of hand and the Army refused to comply, Bangladesh saw a massive change!

PM Hasina fled to India!

The Army refused to comply with PM Hasina’s orders to stamp out the protests as they decided to rebel and gave the PM less than an hour to leave the country. PM Hasina left with no choice, chose to resign and leave Bangladesh and, fled to India. She arrived at New Delhi as she sought asylum in the US and UK, but was promptly denied, leaving her with no choice but to stay in India. What about Bangladesh?

Muhammad Yunus has taken oath as PM!

With a power gap, the Army established an interim government with Muhammad Yunus as the leader! Muhammad Yunus, also called a ‘banker of the poorest of the poor’, was a banker by profession and established the Grameen Bank to help the poor. His achievement in microcredit got him the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 as he is credited with uplifting thousands! He took oath later last week and called for peace! But there’s no peace.

Hindus have been attacked!

Hours after PM Hasina fled Bangladesh, a shocking scene was seen in many cities across Bangladesh. Hindus and Muslims, who lived relatively peacefully, suddenly became enemies. Muslims began targeting Hindus as the latter’s houses were looted, men were beaten up, and reports stated that women were subject to sexual assault! The ISKCON temple, which fed people during the 1970s and the Covid crisis was vandalised as the Hindus were left defenseless!!

Hindus are protesting for their safety!!

Hundreds of Bangladeshi Hindus took to the streets and fled to the India-Bangladesh border in protests against the attacks. They demanded that minorities be ‘saved’ as chants of ‘Hare Krishna’ were heard around the protests. With 52 of the country’s 64 districts suffering communal violence, the minority communities have appealed to Yunus for help. With the community going through such harrowing cases of violence, it must be Bangladesh’s top priority to maintain peace and avoid chaos.
