22-year-old opening batter Hasan Nawaz created history on Friday (March 21) by becoming the fastest Pakistani player to score a T20I century. He reached the milestone in just 44 balls during the third T20I against New Zealand at Eden Park, Auckland.
Breaking Babar Azam’s Record
Before Hasan, Babar Azam held the record for the fastest T20I century for Pakistan, reaching the three-figure mark in 49 balls against South Africa in 2021. Hasan surpassed this record with an explosive knock, smashing 9 fours and 7 sixes.

Pakistan’s Dominant Chase
Chasing a target of 205, Hasan Nawaz remained unbeaten on 105 runs off 45 balls, leading Pakistan to a comfortable 9-wicket victory in just 16 overs. He shared a 74-run opening stand with Mohammad Haris (41) and an unbroken 133-run partnership with skipper Salman Ali Agha (51 off 31 balls).
New Zealand’s Effort Falls Short
New Zealand, batting first, posted 204 runs, thanks to Mark Chapman’s brilliant 94-run knock, which included 11 fours and 4 sixes. However, he lacked support from the other end.
For Pakistan, Haris Rauf was the standout bowler, taking 3 wickets for 29 runs in 4 overs, while Shaheen Afridi, Abbas Afridi, and Abrar Ahmed picked up two wickets each.
Series Still Alive
With this win, Pakistan has kept the five-match series alive. The fourth T20I will take place at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui, on March 23, followed by the final match at Sky Stadium, Wellington, on March 26.
